Howard F. Arner, Jr. has been writing software for over 20 years and is currently a consultant with Client Server Development in Jacksonville, Florida. Howard writes for the Midrange Guru newsletter and is the author of the best-selling book, iSeries and AS/400 SQL at Work. He specializes in large database performance optimization, SQL, data mining, expert systems, schedule optimization and exposing data in legacy systems to the Web. Howard is a popular speaker who rarely travels outside Florida.

Al Barsa, Jr. is President of Barsa Consulting, LLC and Barsa Systems Distribution, Inc, an eleven-time IBM Premier Business Partner which specialize in the iSeries and AS/400. Al is recognized as an industry expert on iSeries and AS/400 hardware, systems management, backup and recovery, and high availability; and currently is one of the few people in the industry that has in depth experience and expertise using Logical Partitioning (LPAR). Al has been named Common's Best Speaker, and has earned their Gold Medal for Speaker Excellence and the Distinguished Service Award.

Dave Boutcher is a member of IBM’s Senior Technical Staff who is currently working on iSeries and pSeries Linux development and architecture. He was one of three chief architects for OS/400 and has worked on a number of technical components of OS/400, including the Integrated File System, the initial release of the FSIOP, the initial release of NetServer, and a variety of communications protocols. He has been running Linux for three years.

Alison Butterill is an IBM Certified Consulting IT Specialist at the IBM Toronto Software Laboratory. She has worked in the midrange area for more than 20 years, specializing in the areas of application development and database. In her present position as Technical Advocate for Application Development, Alison provides worldwide technical support for programming languages and tools on the iSeries. She is a regular speaker at technical conferences around the world and has received numerous Speaker Excellence medals from COMMON North America.

Wayne O. Evans worked at the IBM Rochester Development Lab for 27 years. He designed and implemented many features found in the IBM iSeries and S/38 operating systems and specialized in OS/400 security. He retired from IBM in 1991 to follow a second career in speaking and teaching about OS/400 security as a private consultant. He has authored numerous articles and a book on OS/400 security and has won several speaker awards at COMMON. Wayne is truly an icon of the AS/400 world and the foremost expert on iSeries and AS/400 security.

Marie Finnegan spent 21 years with IBM. During that time, she designed and wrote the RPG/400 Interactive Programming Workshop and taught the System/3X and AS/400 curriculums to IBM United States’ customers and employees. Marie was also conference development manager for the AS/400 Technical Conference program. Since leaving IBM, she has been a project manager and systems analyst, leading several teams that performed successful software migrations on the AS/400. She is currently a systems analyst with TW Metals in Exton, Pennsylvania, where her responsibilities include EDI and managing backup/recovery strategies.

Susan Gantner spent 10 successful years in application development using COBOL and RPG before joining IBM. Her work at IBM included 5 years at the AS/400 Competency Center specializing in Application Development and Database followed by several more years in the Toronto Lab educating programmers in ILE and RPG IV. Susan and her husband Jon Paris formed Partner400 in 2001 to concentrate on education and consulting for AS/400 and iSeries programmers. As a sought-after speaker at technical conferences around the world, Susan has won several speaking awards, including the Jim Sloan Technical Speaker award from COMMON North America.

Dick Grenham had an IBM career spanning more than 32 years. During that time, Dick was responsible for supporting the System/38, mainframe communications, and the AS/400. He was part of the team that provided early AS/400 education to IBM personnel worldwide. He is currently an independent consultant, with IBM certification in a number of disciplines, providing data communications, Client Access, and other iSeries and AS/400 services for his clients.

Marianne Krcma (pronounced "KERCH-ma") is a freelance writer, trainer, and developer who has been writing and editing on a wide range of computer topics for 15 years. She has written 10 computer books, including Windows 2000 Professional Step-by-Step, Web Site Wizardry, and several study guides for MOUS exams (Microsoft Office User Specialist). She also edited Java for COBOL Programmers and the original edition of The AS/400 and Microsoft Office Integration Handbook, among dozens of other AS/400 titles. As a consultant, Marianne provides computer training and development to clients ranging from small nonprofits to Fortune 500 companies. She specializes in providing Web and Office based documentation and integration solutions. And, just in case you were wondering, there are no typos in her last name!

Janet Krueger is an internationally known consultant specializing in the design and optimization of software solutions across multiple industries and platforms. Janet is regarded as the expert in the application development tools arena and has conducted hands-on evaluations of most of the leading iSeries tools. During her 23 years as a developer and architect in the IBM Rochester lab she was instrumental in transforming the legacy AS/400 application base into a set of competitive e-business solutions for the iSeries. A well published author and often quoted speaker, she is a frequent guest speaker and award winner at key iSeries events worldwide. Janet currently serves as COMMON’s treasurer.

Glen Marchesani is a freelance software developer with a broad range of experience. Whether developing a shrink-wrapped application or integrating a legacy system, Glen has the experience to help. His development and teaching skills cover a broad range, from AS/400 green-screens to advanced object-oriented design issues, to Java specific issues. Glen brings into the classroom an excellent balance between design theory and real-world implementation. As a consultant, he gives expert guidance on selecting and using the right tools for specific jobs.

Skip Marchesani retired from IBM after 25 years and is now a consultant with Custom Systems Corp, an IBM Business partner. Recognized as an industry expert on DB2/400 and SQL, and author of DB2/400: The New AS/400 Database, Skip specializes in providing customized education and consulting on all aspects of the AS/400 including database design and design reviews. He has been a speaker for user groups, technical conferences, and AS/400 audiences around the world. Skip has earned COMMON’s Gold Medal for Speaker Excellence and the Distinguished Service Award.

Carole Miner is a Senior Software Engineer for iSeries Client Integration, IBM Rochester Laboratory. Carole has a strong grounding in programming, planning and leadership including the original PC Support, FSIOP (now called Integrated xSeries Server). Carole’s current focus is client integration technologies and support for iSeries Access products. She is an internationally known technical speaker, author and iSeries authority.

Jon Paris has more than 30 years of seasoned expertise in data processing. During 11 years with IBM Jon played a leading role in the planning and design of RPG IV and developed educational and supporting products and services enhancing the effective use of AS/400 programming languages and development tools. In 2001 Jon and his wife Susan Gantner created Partner400 to develop and deliver education and consulting to enhance and modernize OS/400 Application Development. Jon’s successes at IBM and in private industry make him an internationally known and accomplished AS/400 and iSeries technical speaker.

Dave Prescott has been an AS/400 specialist since 1987 and was an IBM Rochester Lab Consultant and participant in the AS/400 National Technical Advocate Program. His special interests include iSeries and AS/400 performance tuning and capacity planning, system operations, and system management. Since retiring from IBM, Dave, co-owner of Systems Management Associates, Inc, has provided system management and performance expertise in a large installation with multiple iSeries and AS/400s. Dave is an IBM Certified iSeries Expert.

Jack Rioni is the former co-owner and vice president of Systems Implementation, Inc., an IBM AS/400 business partner. Jack implemented Web hosting on their AS/400 in 1994 and they have been using it as a Lansa Web server ever since. In 1986 (two years before the AS/400 was announced), Jack worked for the Rochester AS/400 Development Lab where he specialized in AS/400 hardware, and availability and recovery. He headed the team of instructors responsible for teaching the AS/400 to IBM education developers, application developers, and Business Partners and held that position until he retired from IBM in 1992. Jack has taught the AS/400 for more than fifteen years in countries around the world! Jack is also the Web Master for http://www.as400connection.com/.

Jim Sloan is a retired IBMer and president of Jim Sloan, Inc. He was the lead software planner on the System/38 operating system, beginning with the early stages of development and continuing through the development and early releases of the AS/400. While working on the System/38, Jim started what was known as the IBM QUSRTOOL library and wrote all of the IBM TAA tools in the library. Jim is currently the developer of the TAA Productivity Tools product. He has spoken at every COMMON Conference since 1979 and is a frequent speaker for various user groups in the United States and abroad. He is the author of Jim Sloan's CL Tips and Techniques.

Dr. Frank Soltis holds the title of IBM iSeries Chief Scientist. He is the creator of the technology-independent machine interface and the single-level addressability that led to a totally new breed of computers, including the iSeries and the AS/400. He also participated in the definition of the PowerPC architecture and led the effort in Rochester to move to the 64-bit PowerPC RISC processors. The author of Inside the AS/400 and Fortress Rochester, The Inside Story of the IBM iSeries, Dr. Soltis is a frequent speaker at computer conferences around the world. In addition to his responsibilities as IBM iSeries Chief Scientist, he is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota where he teaches graduate courses on advanced computer architectures.

Adam Stallman is a member of IBM's iSeries journal design team. Adam has won awards for his hands-on Journal lab exercises and for his ability to uncover operating system bugs before they ever get out the door. He's currently responsible for testing all journal code produced for new OS/400 releases and developing support for bold new iSeries initiatives to speed up IPL and Save Operations.

Larry Youngren is an honest-to-goodness microcoder for the iSeries. He is frequently consulted regarding high availability choices and performance tuning in journal-intensive database environments. He's the leader of the iSeries Journal microcode design team, and has authored several magazine articles and a Redbook on Journal performance. His current assignment involves future performance and recovery improvements affecting journaling.
